INTERIOR
The original RV had a yellow, one-piece fiberglass tub/shower/sink in the bathroom. I thought it was pretty unique so I decided to keep it. It’s actually the only interior piece I’m keeping from the original. I didn’t want it to be yellow though so I decided to re-coat it gloss white.
I knew they make a few different refinishing kits so I read a lot of reviews online to decide what to get. The typical $25 kits from Home Depot or Rustoleum look really good for about 3 months and then end up peeling off. I ended up ordering a higher end two part epoxy from Amazon for $99.
I did everything required by the instructions so I hope it lasts. The tub had to be cleaned first. Then I filled the holes and cracks with car body filler and sanded it down smooth. There was a pretty big chunk missing in the sink drain but the bondo filled it in perfectly. Then I washed the tub in lacquer thinner to remove an oils or residue. Then I mixed the epoxy and poured it on.
It was actually very difficult to work with because it was sooooo thick. You can’t use brushes so it came with actual combs to spread it around. From the first pour it took me almost the entire 2 hours to spread around and get as smooth as I could (you only have 2 hours before it starts to harden). There were still a ton of drip marks but I am hoping they self level like they are supposed to. It’s not looking very promising though because the stuff is so thick.
This tub combo was actually too big to fit out the door in the RV. They had to put it in first and then build the walls around it. Rebuilding the RV is going to be the next fun obstacle I have to get through without damaging the tub.
