ELECTRICAL
I replaced all of the lights on the front of the van first. The side markers were replaced completely since they were cracked. I replaced the bulb sockets too. The lower front parking lights had broken tabs so I cut them evenly with a dremel and made little L brackets for them. I tinted them to match my moped.
I always thought LED’s drew less power so if I put in LED headlights they would just plug right in. Nope. They worked for a few seconds then melted the dimmer switches. When I replaced the dimmer switch in the dash the dash lights started working again so that was a bonus. I also had to replace the foot switch that turns the brights on and off.
Since the LED’s draw more power I had to get a special wiring harness upgrade. It was very easy to install. I needed a junction block and the kit came with the relays, harness and all the wire. I attached the relays to the passenger side firewall because there is plenty of room on that side.
The headlight buckets and hardware were completely rusted and gone. It was actually more expensive to by the buckets by themselves so I ended up buying complete light/bucket combos for like $23 each and just moved the buckets to the LED housings. Now I have spare bulbs in case the LED burns out. I replaced the adjusters and headlight springs too.
I have some temporary tail lights on the back right now so I can drive it to have the flatbed built. I bought a $25 trailer light kit from Autozone and attached them to a 2x6 I found in my garage.
